Tasks

The volunteer will work alongside local volunteers, youth leaders, social workers and other personnel. The majority of the volunteer’s time will be spent working directly with children (7-14 y.o.) in the day care center. The volunteer will be spending time with children, creating sustainable relationships with them, planning and running daily activities, making meals, organizing trips and small projects together with children from the center, playing games, encouraging the children to participate actively in various activities and contributing to their personal growth. The volunteer will also help for people (mostly children) with mental disabilities. He/she will help professional workers: organize daily activities, help them to learn new things, create personal relationships with them so that the person is more included into social life and it would be easier for him to do self-realization. The activities include games, conversations, and simply spending time together. The volunteer will show individual attention to the people who lack this attention and will help them to complete the tasks. The volunteer will help blind people to get from point A to point B in the city. The volunteer will join the activities of Youth Maltesers. He/she will visit visually impaired children and help them organize leisure activities. The activities will take place in the school for visually impaired children. The volunteer together with local volunteers will visit the place for mothers and children from domestic problematic families and help them with leisure activities. The volunteer will help to run the transportation service for disabled people. He/she will help the employee to transport disabled persons from one point to another. The volunteer will join the volunteers of Youth Maltesers in planning and organizing festivals and various charity events, summer camps, etc. E.g. he/she will have the opportunity to participate in a summer camp and rally as a youth-leader. We create the space and encourage volunteers to implement their personal projects too. There will also be other activities.

Criteria

Our organization strives to be open to everybody. However we expect the volunteer to have some traits. It is important that the volunteer is willing to help whether it is children from the center, lonely elderly people or people with disabilities. We would also like volunteer to be open-minded, willing to take new challenges and be curious Even though we will provide enough support and give specific tasks for the volunteer, initiative and independence of the volunteer is very important too. Although we are Christian organization there are no requirements for the volunteers regarding religion. They are expected to respect the Christian ethos of our organization though. Even though many tasks require some specific knowledge, there are no strict requirements for the volunteer regarding specific skills. The decision will be based on the volunteer’s spirit, motivation, potential to give to the organization, potential to grow through the service; also character as well as his/her perception of this type of work and interest in this country as a place to live for a long term.

Procedure

The candidates are expected to contact the organization by sending his/her CV and motivation letter. Some candidates can be asked for the online live conversation (e.g. Skype).
